The internet is awash with information about national and local organisations, support groups, interest groups, rights and entitlements, healthy living, income support, government services and services for living such as shopping online, banking online, travel etc.
Access to this information can help the elderly, people with disabilities and carers to live more independently and make informed decisions about their lives, care and future. However there are so many different sources of information out there that finding the right information can take a lot of time, effort, prior knowledge and to a certain extent luck.
The Meath Care portal website offers a solution to the problem of finding relevant information on the internet. Links to websites providing a wide range of information and services are collected in one place, sorted and co-ordinated according to the type of information or service they provide. This will allow people to gain direct access to the information that they need when they need it, from the comfort of their own home.
Providing access to information through the website is only one part of the equation. Unless people have:

1) access to computers with internet access
and -
2) knowledge of how to access and use the website, it is unlikely that the service will be used to great effect.
Therefore computers have been provided in suitable locations across the county.
Complimentary training in the use of the Meath Care Portal website has also been provided in order to equip people with the skills required to make effective use of the website.
